Homeless Intervention Services (HIS) Van
Taking HIS love to the streets
Begun in 1988, The Homeless Intervention Services (HIS) van, which is based at 155 Gifford Street, provides transportation and outreach to homeless people in Onondaga County. The HIS team drives the homeless in local shelters to legal, medical, employment and housing appointments. Part of the day is also spent engaging with those who ask for money or live in cars or alleyways, under bridges, beside creeks or other hidden areas.
Because trust is earned and the process takes time, we come with mercy in the form of words, blankets, warm clothing, food and beverages to show the homeless they’re valued by God and a caring community. Our desire is that every hurting person coming in contact with the HIS team would get the help they need and the opportunity to start a new life.
