About The Authors
RICHARD F. PALMER has been a staff writer for the Syracuse Herald Journal for more than 20 years.
He is a native of Palmyra, New York, but has lived in the Syracuse area most of his life.
With an avid interest in local history, he has written numerous articles on the
subject for the newspaper over the years. He is also interested in railroad history as
well as that of the Great Lakes, and in this connection is a member of numerous historical
organizations catering to these interests.
He is a member and on the board of the Onondaga Historical Association,
and is a member of the Central New York Chapter, National Railway Historical Society,
which has a railroad museum at Martisco, near Marcellus.
He and his wife, Jean, and daughter, Julia, reside near Tully.
HENRY W. SCHRAMM,
Senior Public Relations Officer at Key Bank of Central New York, has served as
a Rescue Mission volunteer for a number of years.
A New York City
native, he received his B.A. and M.A. degrees from Syracuse University. A veteran of World
War II and Korea, he was a reporter for the Post Standard and Binghamton Press, and a
public relations officer at the Barlow/Johnson Agency prior to joining Key Bank in 1970.
He has authored, with the late William Roseboom, "They Built a City" and
"SyracuseSalt to Satellite," and also wrote "The Dynamic Years"
and most recently, "Empire Showcase, A History of The New York State Fair."
Additionally, he was a correspondent for Business Week and freelance magazine writer.
