A Cappella Concert to Benefit the Rescue Mission Is Saturday, April 12
Four a cappella groups are presenting an evening of upbeat music to benefit the Rescue Mission.
“A Cappella for the Fellas,” a concert raising support to feed, clothe, shelter and equip homeless men, is Saturday, April 12 at 7:30 p.m. at Syracuse Center for the Performing Arts, 728-730 East Genesee Street.
In its second year, “A Cappella for the Fellas” is the brainchild of local physician John Finkenstadt. He brought his a cappella group, no Xcuse, to the Rescue Mission in early 2007 to entertain its residents. The concert was so well-received that Dr. Finkenstadt approached the Rescue Mission about doing a full-fledged benefit featuring his and other a cappella groups.
Besides no Xcuse, which offers a full range of music from doo-wop to the Beatles, blues, jazz, folk rock and barbershop, this year’s concert also features another Syracuse-based group, Five to Life, performing gospel, doo-wop, barbershop and R&B; Still in Progress from Oswego, which focuses on traditional barbershop to today’s pop songs; and Inner Loop from Rochester, which sings contemporary and popular music from such groups as the Temptations, U2 and Maroon5.
Tickets are $10 in advance, available online
or 701-3891, or $12 the evening of the concert.
